Luanne Thorndyke is Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS). She is responsible for all matters related to faculty, including faculty and leadership development; academic affairs (appointment, promotion and tenure); recruitment, retention, and satisfaction; faculty diversity and inclusion; gender and equity issues. Prior to joining UMMS, she was Associate Dean for Professional Development at the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine/Hershey Medical Center and also served as Assistant Dean of Continuing Medical Education. She established the Penn State Jr. Faculty Development Program, an initiative that has become nationally recognized as a model for faculty development and mentoring. A graduate of Duke University and the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, she has broad experience in college academic administration, including policy and programmatic development, clinical leadership and administration, and financial oversight. Scholarly interests include faculty development and mentoring, leadership and advancement of women, and faculty competencies.
Dr. Thorndyke is Chair-Elect of the AAMC Group on Faculty Affairs, serving on both the Steering Committee and the Research Subcommittee. She is a member of the Accreditation Review Council of the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education, the Society of Academic CME, and previously the Coordinating Committee for the AAMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science. A board-certified internist and geriatrician, her clinical interests include menopausal health, osteoporosis, and geriatrics.
