I was born and raised in Lithuania during very difficult times of Russian occupation in a family with an extensive medical experience. Having a chance to look back and express that in words, I found myself amazed by the fact that I did not have any chance to become anybody else but a doctor: someone who takes great pride in helping those who suffer and those in need of help.

I was justsix years old when I stepped into the operatingroom for the first time, thanks to my father who is still practicing as a cardiac anesthesiologist and critical care physician. The impression of that first experience is still following me to this day.

Evidence-based medicine, the practical use of research-based information, the improvement of patient care and the ability to minimize suffering have drawn me even deeper into the specialty of anesthesiology and critical care. The ability to share that information and my experiences with young minds seeking to learn and to know cannot to be found anywhere else but at a university with a strong academic commitment.

My primary interests are teaching what I know, sharing what I have learned, making my patients happy, and doing my best so that my patients do not have to return to the hospital. My medical interests are fast-track coronary bypass surgery, myocardial and CNS protection, postoperative pain, ARDS, acute lung injury, aortic aneurysm surgery, sepsis, septic shock, multisystem organ dysfunction, and shortened hospital stay.
