Research Interests

TjiaJennifer Tjia, MD, MSCE is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and a Research Associate at the Meyers Primary Care Institute.  Dr. Tjia’s research interests include geriatric health services research, pharmacoepidemiology and population-based clinical effectiveness studies.  Her interests focus on optimizing the use of chronic prescription medication by older adults, particularly in nursing home residents with advanced dementia and near the end-of-life.  She has been awarded a K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Career Development Grant from the National Institute on Aging to study the health outcomes associated with differences in prescription drug coverage for older adults. She is co-investigator on grants from AHRQ including “Improving Posthospital Medication Management of Older Adults through Health IT” & “Using HIT to Improve Transitions of Complex Elderly Patients from SNF to Home”, and “Risk Informed Intervention to Improve Ambulatory Drug Monitoring and Safety”. She is co-author of “Appropriate Approach to Prescribing” in the 6th edition of Hazzard’s Principles of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology.  She is co-director of “Design and Observational Studies and Clinical Trials” course in the Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation Program.
