"Improving Orthopedic Outcomes Through a National TJR Registry"
Sponsor: NIH-Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
Patricia Franklin, Principal Investigator
In Fall 2010, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) awarded $12 million to the University of Massachusetts Department of Orthopedics and Physical Rehabilitation to develop and implement FORCE-TJR, a nationwide, comprehensive database of total joint replacement (TJR) surgical and patient-reported outcomes. The FORCE-TJR research effort will collect data from more than 30,000 TJR patients, develop tools with which to record the patients’ assessment of the success and failure of their surgery, and conduct research to guide both clinical care and health care policy.
"Perioperative intervention to improve post-TKR support and function"
Sponsor: NIAMS
Patricia Franklin, Principal Investigator; Milagros Rosal, CO-Investigator; David Ayers, CO-Investigator; Wenjun Li, CO-Investigator
This research develops and tests a patient-centered telephone counselor support intervention to enhance self-efficacy, self-care, and adherence to physical activity in the rehabilitation period. As the population ages, maintenance and improvement of independent physical function will have increased importance to osteoarthritis patients and society. Thus, new health delivery models that integrate behavioral care with rehabilitation are needed.
"eHealth tools for knee arthritis patients: treatment choice, outcome assessment, and answers: how will I benefit from total knee replacement surgery?"
Sponsor: Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Patricia Franklin, Principal Investigator; Wenjun Li, CO-Investigator; David Ayers, CO-Investigator
Using an existing national registry of more than 8,300 TKR patients the proposed eHealth tools will translate quality measurement data to individualized, evidence-based outcome predictions to guide patients TKR decisions.
