    Dr Mai-Lan RogoffDr Rogoff is an adult and child psychiatrist with a subspecialty in developmental disabilities. She initially came to UMass in 1983 and has recently returned to the position of Associate Training Director in Psychiatry which she held initially 1987-1994.  Since coming to UMass she has served as Director of the Student Counseling Service, Associate and Acting Training Director in Psychiatry, and then Associate Dean for Student Affairs from 1994-2013.  After graduating from New York Medical College, she did an internship in Internal Medicine at New England Deaconess Hospital and then a residency in Adult Psychiatry at Dartmouth Affiliated Hospitals in Hanover New Hampshire. She remained on the Dartmouth faculty for several years and then came to Boston to do a Child Psychiatry residency with a Developmental Disabilities fellowship and later a Dupont-Warren research fellowship at Children's Hospital Medical Center.  

    In addition to her administrative responsibilities, Dr Rogoff continues to be an active teacher for the psychiatry department at both the medical student and resident levels. She co-directs the Brain, Nervous System and Behavior course, is a small group leader for the first year Doctoring and Clinical Skills (DCS1) course, and is a co-director of an interstitial course on developmental disabilities. Before accepting the administrative appointment as Associate Dean, she Chaired the faculty's Educational Policy Committee (the major curriculum committee) of the School of Medicine in 1993-94 and has won a number of school, state and national teaching awards for both residency and medical student teaching. These include the "Lamar-Soutter Award" (for lifetime achievement at UMass Medical School), the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society's "Outstanding Psychiatrist Award in Psychiatric Education", the first "Nancy Roeske Award for Excellence in Medical Education" and the "Irma Bland Award for Residency Teaching", both from the American Psychiatric Association. She has also been a regularly invited lecturer at both Dartmouth and Harvard Medical Schools. Dr Rogoff has served as a Faculty Fellow for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, an examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and from 1993-98 was a member and then Chair of the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) Step I Behavioral Science Test Writing Committee for the National Board of Medical Examiners.  Dr Rogoff has research interests in medical student and resident education, burnout, wellness and coping in medical students and residents, and in negotiation in the medical setting.
