overview

Trained in Medicine, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Psychometrics, Dr. Yang is an interdisciplinary health science investigator. Earlier in his career, Dr. Yang was primarily a collaborative scientist, focusing on collaborations with clinicians across wide disciplines in hospitals, medical and dental schools in China, Europe, and the U.S. Since 2013, Dr. Yang has devoted more efforts towards self-initiated research, primarily on Novel Study Design & Analysis (NSDA) and Measurement in Health (MIH). Currently at UMass Chan, Dr. Yang is focusing on 1) NSDA, as the originator of the CREID (Complementary Randomized controlled trial and real-world study for Efficacy, effectiveness, or Implementation Design. SCT 2022 & APHA 2022) and the SCTD (Seamless Case-Control, Cohort, and Randomized Controlled Trials Design. SCT 2023), 2) MIH, as the Founding Director of the Measurement, Outcome, and Design Section (MODS); 3) Oral Health, as the originator and organizer of the OHI (Oral Health Incubator, since 2021) and the NUCOH (NYU-UMass Collaboration on Oral Health, since 2022); and 4) PhD level Statistical Collaboration on papers and (NIH) grants. As a Methodologist, Dr. Yang is enthusiastic about developing better designs, methods, and outcome measures. Besides originating the CREID in 2022 and the SCTD in 2023, Dr. Yang has developed or refined multiple popular outcome measures and scales since 2006. As an Educator, Dr. Yang has been teaching Biostatistics, Clinical Trials, Survey, Scientific Writing, and Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis to medical, dental, and graduate students and professionals in China and the U.S. since 1998. As an Editor, he has been serving as the Section, Statistical, Associate Editor, and International Advisor for four journals. Currently, Dr. Yang is recruiting junior investigators to join the MODS and the OHI, including MS and PhD Students, Postdoc Fellows, and Research Assistant Professors.
