Janet Fraser Hale’s clinical practice during her academic career has focused on the military population, initially as a critical care nurse, and then as a family nurse practitioner in women’s health and family practice. Her academic interests have predominantly focused on advanced practice nursing education within interprofessional curricula, population health, and health professions’ education in the Middle East, particularly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. A current focus supports the efforts of the MA State Legislature to forecast Veterans’ health risks and needs for long-term care services, supports and housing over the next 20-50 years.
Prior to coming to UMass Graduate School of Nursing, Dr. Hale directed the Collaborative Nurse Practitioner Program at George Mason University College of Nursing and Health Sciences partnered with the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Hale served in the US Army Nurse Corps for 33 years (active and reserve).
