BiographyStephenie C. Lemon, PhD is Professor and Chief of the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences. She serves as Co-Director of the UMass Worcester Prevention Research Center and Director of the Community Engagement Core of the UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Dr. Lemon is a recognized leader in chronic disease prevention and control research, implementation science and community engagement in research. Dr. Lemon serves as co-Director of an NCI-funded post-doctoral training program in implementation science and as co-Director of an NHLBI-funded institutional K12 program in implementation science. Current Funded ResearchNIH U01 TR002070 Battaglia/Freund/Haas/Lemon (Multi PIs) 09/01/2017 - 05/31/2022 Translating Research into Practice: A Regional Collaboration to Reduce Disparities in Breast Cancer Care Translating Research into Practice (TRIP) draws upon the principles of community-engaged implementation science to facilitate deployment and utilization of: (a) regional patient registries; (b) systematic screening for social barriers to care with a referral plans; and (c) patient navigation services into one integrated model of care to improve the quality and effectiveness of care delivery for African American women with breast cancer. Massachusetts Department of Transportation Lemon (site PI) 09/01/2018 - 08/31/2020 This mixed methods study will utilize multiple methods, including literature synthesis, data simulation and key informant interviews to develop best practices for incorporation of public health metrics into strategic planning efforts for transportation-related initiatives. 1 K12 HL138049-01 Lemon/Houston (Multi PI’s) 09/05/2017 - 08/31/2022 K12 Massachusetts Consortium for Cardiopulmonary Implementation Science Scholars This interdisciplinary K12 training program for junior faculty promotes the development of independent implementation researchers committed to addressing cardiopulmonary disease prevention, treatment and management. The program will be led by the University of Massachusetts Medical School in collaboration with Baystate Health and the Center for Healthcare Organization and Implementation Research of the VA. U01 TR001812-02 Lemon/Allison/Saag/Harris (Multi-PI’s) 09/08/2016 - 06/30/2021 Srengthening Translational Research in Diverse Enrollment (STRIDE) This collaborative study between UMass Medical School, Vanderbilt and the University of Alabama at Birmingham is developing innovative approaches to enhancing informed consent procedures with a goal of improving research literacy among under-served populations. The multi-component informed consent platform integrates e-consent with patient storytelling and simulations-based research assistant training. It will be tested in the context of six ongoing clinical trials in a multiple time series design randomized trial. 5 UL1 TR001453-03 Luzuriaga (PI) 08/14/2015 – 03/31/2019 University of Massachusetts Clinical and Translational Science Award This award enhances the capacity of the University of Massachusetts Medical School in the conduct of clinical and translational research, with a focus on infrastructure development. The Community Engagement and Research section aims to enhance academic and community capacity to address urgent health priorities among communities in Massachusetts using community engaged research approaches through the establishment of regional community based research networks (CBRN) and junior faculty training programs. With a major focus on obesity, physical activity and healthy eating, this work addresses six priority areas: health equity, the built environment, policy and systems, technology assisted interventions, child and adolescent health, worksite health promotion and community-clinical linkages. R25 CA172009-04 Lemon/Houston (Co-PI’s) 06/01/2014 – 05/31/2019 Implementation Research Training Program in Cancer Prevention and Control This education and training grant intends established a postdoctoral training program focused on community and clinical implementation science in cancer prevention and control.
