Dr. Nguyen is a cardiovascular disease epidemiologist who has more than 20 years of experience in public health, clinical research, and global health. She has received grant funding support from the NIH to conduct several observational studies and randomized controlled trials in Vietnam. She served as the Principal Investigator for a study aiming to establish a population-based registry for patients hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction in northern and central provinces of Vietnam. She was a key investigator on an NHLBI-funded study examining the effectiveness of the Storytelling intervention in improving hypertension control in rural settings of Vietnam. She is also MPI for an NCI-funded study evaluating the effectiveness of a motivational text message intervention in increasing the use of quitlines and smoking cessation in People Living with HIV in Vietnam. She is Multi-PI for a Fogarty-funded training program in non-communicable disease in Vietnam, in which a new Master in Epidemiology in English and a Postdoctoral fellowship program have been established at Hanoi Medical University. She is also the contact PI for a newly NLHBI-funded study evaluating the effectiveness of multi-component intervention in improving hypertension control in urban settings of Vietnam. She serves as the instructor for several courses offered at the University and a mentor to several Masters, Ph.D, and postdoctoral trainees. She has served on scientific review panels on global health at the NIH.
