Dr. Patel attended Rutgers – New Jersey Medical School and Rutgers - Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences from 2006-13, where he completed the physician-scientist training program (PSTP). He trained in the disciplines of stem cell biology and cancer biology. His prior research focused on breast cancer dormancy in the bone marrow. He then completed Internal Medicine residency at Stanford University (2013-16) and Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Stanford University (2016-19), during which time he studied the leukemic stem cell niche in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He is board-certified in Internal Medicine (2016), Hematology (2019), and Medical Oncology (2019).

His current research involves understanding the disease biology and clonal dynamics of TP53-mutant MDS and AML (Patel et al., Leuk Lymphoma 2021; 62:3348-60).

Dr. Patel specializes in acute leukemia, myeloid malignancies, myelodysplastic syndrome, myeloproliferative neoplasms, lymphoma, and bone marrow (stem cell) transplant. He believes strongly in servant leadership and hopes to empower his patients through advocacy.
