As a young and active member in the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at UMass, I am involved in some educational and research endeavors with the goal to improve patient care in cardiac anesthesia.
My research interests are mainly clinically related and include fast-track cardiac anesthesia, regional anesthesia for cardiac surgery, and anesthesia for off-pump cardiac surgery.
I am also responsible for basic and advanced fiberoptic endoscopy training for residents at UMass. This includes the use of fiberoptic endoscopy to identify tracheobronchial anatomy, and demonstrate the use of fiberoptic techniques in the placement of endotracheal tubes and double-lumen tubes. I coordinate the program within our department that certifies residents who have successfully completed fifty fiberoptic intubations.
Another interest of mine is using and teaching transesophageal echocardiography. This includes reviewing the relevant anatomy and pathology with the residents.
I love resident and medical student teaching.
