    Mark Scharf, MD, received his Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences from the University of Chicago in 1978. He attended the Emory University School of Medicine and went on to complete his internship in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He trained in dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital, completing residency in 1986.

    Dr. Scharf then joined the Department of Dermatology at UMass Medical School where he is a  professor of medicine. He also serves as the director of the phototherapy unit, director of the Dermatology Laser Center and serves as a member of the Laser Safety Subcommittee. Scharf spent two years precepting with Mary Maloney, MD, in Mohs surgery at UMass Memorial from July 2005 – June 2007. He was granted clinical privileges in Mohs surgery in July 2007.
