    Collapse overview

Dr. Baek is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biostatistics and Health Services Research in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Baek, received his PhD in Biostatistics from University of Michigan in 2014. He worked since then as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and retained interdisciplinary collaborations in interesting biomedical projects at University of Michigan until 2017.

His research interests focus on developing statistical methods in longitudinal data, hierarchical data, and correlated data. He developed Hierarchical Multiple Informants Model and applied Distributed Lag Model to examine association between measured factors of the built environment and health outcomes in epidemiological research. He also developed Bayesian Newton’s Growth Model, as an extension of a Bayesian semi-parametric stochastic velocity model, to formulate infant body mass index growth dynamics and to examine its association with prenatal environmental exposure to toxicants. He recently proposed to use an efficient algorithm via pruned dynamic programming to predict sleep duration from actigraphy. He is interested and experienced in the area of missing data analysis, propensity score methods, semi-parametric methods, spatial data analysis, tracking data analysis. His collaborative research includes environmental epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, social epidemiology, and health disparities.

Teaching: Statistical Methods for Survival and Longitudinal Data (CTS603B); Independent Study of Multi-level Modeling (CTS799).
