Collapse Overview
Collapse description
Hand osteoarthritis is a painful disorder that impairs an individual's ability to perform activities of daily life but has been the subject of little research and has few therapeutic options. Growing evidence suggests that per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are grease-resistant chemicals found in everyday items (e.g., clothing, furniture), relate to self-reported diagnosis of osteoarthritis. Our goal is to explore the relationship between these chemicals and hand osteoarthritis to help inform public health policies, identify susceptible populations, and suggest therapeutic targets.
