It has a broad range of targets that include EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX PROTEINS; PROTEOGLYCANS; and INSULIN-LIKE GROWTH FACTOR BINDING PROTEINS. Mutations in the HTRA1 gene are associated with AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION 7 and Cerebral Autosomal Recessive Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy (CARASIL).
